Frequently asked questions:
What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
It is not complicated. I charge by the hour. This gives the customer the opportunity to stop me at any time. If the job is very small, I will quote a set figure.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I try to develop a good working attitude with a new prospect. My communication with a new customer is very important to me. Paying attention to exactly what they want me to accomplish. Once we are on the same page, I can continue with my duty.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
None. But I do obtain info from the internet and also visit my local library to read about gardening & lawn care so that I have some educated knowledge about different types of weeds, mulching, planting, correct tools to use, etc. I need to learn as much as I can to assist my clients with any questions or concerns that they may have.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I always noticed homes that have great flowers and greenery. I also see the ones that have weeds in large proportions. Seeing "weeds," where they don't belong, saddens me. The setting is tarnished in my vision. It seemed to me that most people do not realize how much the plants are suffering. I want to make a difference. So I love to change the landscape one "yard" at a time.
What types of customers have you worked with?
The customer types are usually the ones that do not have the time, patience, and knowledge to correctly eradicate weeds. Some are elderly, and cannot bend. Others are people who need an "extra pair of hands" to assist them.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
The most recent job that I was very proud of was the yard of a young couple with a young child. The dad just did not have the time to weed two small flower beds, and another small area with weeds between the cobble stone. I realized that he must be very busy. His wife was a stay at home mom caring for a four-year old. He hired me to assist him. When he got home he emailed me and said that I did a wonderful job. It is so nice and neat now, and that he will definitely call me in the spring to do it all over again. I was delighted that he was so satisfied with my service. It was very enlightening. I received a big complement from my boyfriend, who is in the same field as an owner of a landscaping company, conveying to me that this one was the "best one" that I have done. It was a job well done!!!
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
The advice that I would give is to make sure that you get a great "first impression" from the representative. That may be a good indicator of perhaps how well of a job they will do for you. See if you notice the "passion" in their eyes to perform a great service. They should also greet you with a "smile" and "a compassion" in making your residential yard appealing.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
The customer needs to know much they are willing to spend in obtaining a professional to do work for them. They should know exactly what specific areas that need the attention. Will they need to be home while the work is being performed? How much will my residence cost? How long will it take? What type of payment do you accept? : ) Opal
